Yerba has similarities to both Coffees and Teas. Being a crop, the leaves vary in tastes by growing region, climate and processing. Like some teas, the leaves are plucked, dried and crushed. Energy is provided from the matein in the leaves, a compound similar to caffeine but said to provide a more stable, sustained effect. In South America the Yerba consumer, the "Matero", can be seen carrying his gourd "Bombillia" everywhere.
