NOT JUST ANOTHER FREE CALENDAR
Our Hawthorne Coffee Calendar this year is "Rise and Shine" by Jean Robinson. Jean's watercolor was our choice in a competition among students of Portland artist Stephen Sorhl. Please stop by and pick up your free copy.
THE FEATURED COFFEE IS FROM VENEZUELA
(.50 off a pound through January 2003)
The Venezuelan is a handsome, clean bean grown in the Sanare Mountains. The coffee is hand picked and fine washed, going through four washings rather than the usual two. This results in a clean taste with good acidity. The slight sharpness is balanced with a delicate sweetness and smoky overtones with heavy body. Our Venezuelan is purchased direct from a family-run estate that justifiably takes pride in their fine product.
THIS MONTH'S Q&A
Q. Should I use bleached, unbleached or gold plated filters?
A. First be sure to use a filter that is designed to fit your filter basket. (Check your owner's manual or call us if you are unsure.) Bleached white paper filters are the most common, however unbleached brown filter papers are usually available. Permanent gold plated wire mesh filters also work very well and are environmentally friendly.
