*NEW COFFEE AT THE HAWTHORNE COFFEE MERCHANT!*
Kansato Estate is located in Kasama, Zambia, which is in the Northern Province of the country. The coffee is grown on what is called the Northern Plateau at an elevation of about 4500-5000 feet.
Kansato Coffee is hand-picked by local African farmers, pulped, fermented, washed and sun-dried locally. It is graded and cleaned again at the Zambia Coffee Growers Association, where they bag it for export.
Kansato coffee is the "Kents" variety of Arabica. The trees yield lots of fruit and are disease-resistant. They blue-grey beans roast up with a clean, fresh taste, without any bitterness. "Peaberry" denotes the grade, which is the richest-tasting of the Kansato coffees and easily recognizable by the characteristic round shape of the beans.
*IS THERE SUCH A THING AS "WHITE TEA"? *
Yes indeed. Researchers are finding white tea has more disease-fighting antioxidants than green tea.
Black, green and white teas are plucked from the same Camellia siennsis plant. Mature leaves are used in black and green tea. White tea, however, comes from the tender first leaves and unopened buds picked only a few days a year in mountainous Chinese Provinces. The hand-picked buds have a whitish down. The brewed tea itself is a pale amber with a very delicate taste.
